Innovative Learning

Computing With A Purpose"

COMPUTER LITERACY: With the World advancing and becoming more technical in every field, we continue working hard to see our youth (the girls and boys) learn and adopt skills in the computing world so that they are not left behind in this accelerating speed taking over at a high pace.

Computer Literacy is one of the many programs that we run under that the skill programs as a result of combating on the challenges that the youth face as they often are left out in the slums and other communities that continue to suffer in, with the objective of empowering and educating children and women.

Computer Literacy is not only the future of our children’s’ education but it is also the present; and we need to make the investment in ICT now!

It is one of the key skills needed to access and enrich learning of all kinds. It’s all about communication, and in the world in which our children are growing up, it is vital: whatever they do, they will have to be ICT-literate. ICT connects all areas of the curriculum. The internet can be a powerful resource; if children aren’t connected at home school provision becomes even more important.

We have clearly set three E’s as our goal on course to achieve in the next years for instance: - Education, Empowerment and Employment. It is focused on bringing about a qualitative change in the lives of underprivileged, underserved children by giving a different meaning to computer education.

Computer Education Project:

This was established to provide a platform for vocational training especially for those students who showed a lack of interest in continuing formal studies or were dropouts from school which implies to many of our street children who find themselves in tough situations as the years and periods they spend while living on streets affects much of their lives. In order not to leave them behind as the world evolves we ensure that they too are somehow in this continuing works of innovative learning. Here we organize programs specially keeping an eye on providing employable skills to the youth.

The objectives of the Computer Training are as follows:-

To provide youth and rehabilitating children with vocational skills.

To identify youth from under privileged backgrounds and help build their confidence and awareness.

To support children in active schooling to provide minimum levels of computer learning.

To empower Youth economically from rural & slum areas as many of them push up to further their learning at the technical schools.

To nurture, mentor and assist youths to become human resource assets in the community and to restore dignity amongst the underprivileged.

Provide & promote professional IT skill to community so that they are equipped with industry oriented quality education and training.

Imparting education and training to generate quality human resources in the areas of IT industry.

Impart continuing education/refresher training/re-training for rural & Semi urban unemployed youth and Women.

• Develop training & professional programs to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship.

• Imparting a basic level IT Literacy program for the rural & Semi urban people.

• Offering job oriented courses like DTP, Tally, and Web designing to enhance IT skill.

• Using Technology based – Spoken English Programs, Online Commerce & Retail Management courses.

OUR FIRST COMPUTER CENTRE

Over 24 students have completed computer training and using their skills in various trades including teaching & starting their own computer centers. We have taken the initiative to empower rural & Slum women by equipping them with special skills to earn a little income along with managing their household work. Skills offered to them had been sewing, Tailoring, Beauty culture, computer-literacy, embroidery, Paper products and many other. High skilled youth under this program have gone on to join the labour market in different areas of the city and outside the city.

NEED FOR VOCATIONAL TRAINING.

In the age of information and Technology, nation’s overall development is connected with the quantity and quality vocational skill possessed by nation’s workforces. The wider the range and higher the quality of vocational skills, the faster is the growth.

There is a great unmet need among the present day’s youth for short, abridged, concise and condensed vocational training programs. The youth and modern job seekers are trying to impart vocational training according to their own time and pace with relatively low cost. Besides, there is also need for a wide range of vocational courses for those who are already employed but seek to broaden or upgrade their skills to keep pace with changing needs and to further their career opportunities.

The lack of vocational training applies at all levels, from basic mechanical skills needed for operating and repairing equipment to jobs in sales, administration and management, including specialized occupations such as bookkeepers, insurance agents, pharmaceutical marketing, travel agents, food service managers, journalism, etc. It applies also to a wide range of value-added skills for enhancing the performance of workers in different occupations, such as safe driving, rainwater harvesting, energy conservation, customer service, etc. It is with such demand that we aim to continue teaching the children the basics and further learning of computers so far at our small centre.

WHAT WE PROPOSE

We intended to meet the need for short, low cost and easily accessible vocational training courses. The aim is to establish computerized vocational training program that can benefit 10000 youth in next three years.

COMPUTER LITERACY PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN/YOUTH AS REHABILITATION

Computer has become a part and parcel of our day-to-day life. Innovative learning to help the children, develop interest in their studies using digital educational content, increase their self-confidence and help them acquire certain skills, which will help them to be established in life.

At the centers, many children come to rehabilitate as they endure many tribulations in the various settings that they come from, for this matter we ensure to be while at home with their families especially for those from the very desperate environments. We want the children to feel safe , loved and catered each time they come for their studies at the centre. Once the children join the innovative learning, we become responsible for them and pertake in whatever challenge they might have within their families and even in the communities.

Development strategy of Youth through Skill Development, Career Guidance, Training and Placement

Through this proposed project, we plan to work with youths, adolescent among others. These are the adolescents from the deprived section of the society, and continue to need guidance on a daily basis. In this proposed 1-year project period, we aim to develop skills, introduction to computers, coding and more designing programs for the youth so as to ease what is to come in the nearby future and provide future job opportunities to these adolescent.

They will be trained not only through vocational training but also will be oriented and provided with the necessary inputs to develop their skills, knowledge, and guide them to develop a positive attitude and behavior through organizing Personal grooming workshops, Career Guidance Workshop & Career orientation session at the center with the support of Network organization especially from computer developers and teachers, volunteers’ groups.

In one-year time, every adolescent will be able to develop themselves as an educated skilled person with better placement opportunities. This will not only help them to bring positive changes in the family but also they would become role models within the community and an inspiration for others especially the young children in the desperate who are often left alone to suffer by themselves. Many children have got successful placement especially in the field of website designing, retails sales outlet and other sectors including camera installation

HOW THIS PROGRAM SERVES THE NEEDIEST AND/UNDERSERVED COMMUNITY

Established in 2020, It provides diverse educational support to children of all age groups from underprivileged communities located in and around the city. It aims at providing a broad-based educational framework. Apart from basic primary education the emphasis is on overall personality development, which helps to instill confidence and equality among the children. Here "Underprivileged beneficiaries" refers to all the beneficiaries who have to struggle for, and are often denied, their basic rights. The term covers all categories of less privileged Adolescent children or women and children of all age groups including street children, child labourers, girl children, tribal children, children of commercial sex workers, physically and mentally challenged children, children in juvenile institutions.

How we are most qualified to address this learning opportunity

The organization’s main objective is to promote Education with Purposes. The main target group of communities are women, girls and children. Since the beginning, we have been working to empower women through mainstreaming in education and placing them into livelihood programs.

Till today, every year at least 20 girls completed stitching, sewing, embroidery and a few boys 9 have finished computer courses. There are 15 underprivileged girls already completed “O” level. One girl is undergoing animation from a computer institution. We are looking into developing our animation classes for our centers and two of our former street children have finished courses such software development and information technology in different universities.

Apart from that,

The center has a good IT volunteering team and each center is highly focused on computer learning implementation

The center regularly upgrades the skill of the IT team as well as teachers and maintains high discipline.

Regular teachers training and refresher courses are taking place in the center

The center has one computer room at the hide out Centre; these are old ones provided to us by various companies or volunteers. These are in need of up gradation at the moment as the number of the children increases we often need to add onto the computers as well.

How we are most qualified to address this learning opportunity(ACTIVITY PLAN.)

The activities are to be carried out in the following manner: -

Benjamine's Story

His Story is the ladder that helped him climb.

Benjamin's love for school led us into his life immediately after we found him during our street programs. He left home immediately after his parents split and with his mother's death intensified the situation in a way that was very unbearable. The constant beatings at home led him to the streets as his father would excessively punish him in case of any mistake that he would do. When we met him he was very bruised and we had a one on one talk with him so that we would figure out a solution to his challenge.

We traced his family and were able to communicate with them for two full weeks and find a solution for him. His resettlement wasn't an easy process as the stages were intensified by his father, however knowing our responsibility we respected his terms as long as Benjamin was to be taken back to school and treated well as any child and the punishment to be given to him had to be reasonable.

Benjamin lost his mother with such a situation, his father took on the responsibility which was not an easy task. Many street kids always leave home when one or two parents die and this could have been a similar situation for Benjamin. He was on streets for about nine months and he regularly attended our programs just like other children. He was very humble and often demanded to be taken to the shelter which we did immediately as his interest in academics was overwhelming to us. Joining the shelter just like other kids he had hardships and struggles for the first two months.

Rehabilitation takes a longer time for every child depending on his level of addiction and what he engaged in while on the streets. For Benjamin much of his struggles were what he had dealt with while at home and these challenges were a huge stem in his behaviors such as temper and fighting with others.

His love for studies and focus assisted him in his transformation because he focused more on learning and always challenged the staff with questions that would help him grow and improve.

Benjamin continued with his studies while with us and when he went to boarding school we ensured that he was catered for properly and had all needed. He finished his Ordinary level and went on with Advanced level and majored in sciences. Today he is at university finalizing his degree in computer studies.

His story and transformation continues to push him and us to do more so that many kids are able to accomplish what they are destined for.
